Women in Lens-Based Media

City Eye and John Hansard Gallery hosted a special event for International Women’s Day 2024.
Artists Pia Arke and Gayle Chong Kwan, whose work was on display at John Hansard Gallery in two new solo exhibitions, investigated themes of nationhood, island communities, and colonialism through a female lens.
Short films by Lise Autogena & Joshua Portway and Julie Edel Hardenberg were also shown, as part of a group film programme running alongside the Pia Arke exhibition.

John Hansard Gallery’s Senior Curator Ros Carter led a guided tour of the galleries, and Susan Beckett, Director of City Eye, was on hand to discuss the importance of women’s film and media networks.
