SUMMER 2025 - GREASE THE MUSICAL 

Love film? Curious about what goes on behind the scenes of a theatre production?
​City Eye and Mayflower Participation are offering a fantastic opportunity for young people to get hands-on experience in documentary filmmaking during this year’s Summer Youth Project production of Grease The Musical - School Edition.

Over five days, participants will work with City Eye’s professional team to film and produce a behind-the-scenes documentary capturing the energy, creativity, and teamwork that bring the show to life. You'll collaborate with the cast, creatives, and Participation team to tell the story of Grease from a fresh perspective.
Whether you’re an experienced filmmaker or completely new to using a camera, this opportunity is open to anyone keen to learn and get involved.
Project Dates:
  • Tuesday 12 August
  • Wednesday 13 August
  • Monday 18 August
  • Wednesday 20 August – Tech Day
  • Friday 22 August – Dress Rehearsal
Open to young people in academic Years 8 to 13.
Bursaries are available.

YOUNG FILMMAKERS 
Mayflower and City Eye Young Filmmakers activities take place throughout the year offering the opportunity for technical skills, confidence and creativity through film.
 
Participants have the opportunity to explore all aspects of the filmmaking process, working on documentary and drama projects learning skills and gaining

2024 Summer Youth Film Project - Bugsy Malone!
For the summer of 2024 we  invited young filmmakers to join up with the Mayflower Summer Youth Project to film rehearsals in the lead up to its show, creating a short documentary of the process. ​

In 2022  Mayflower SYP presented the fantastic The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.

Some Like it Hip Hop:
​Unsung Heroes
​

In October 2019 crew from Mayflower and City Eye Young Filmmakers group shot this short dance film capturimg the work of young dancers who had worked with Zoonation - The Kate Prince Company to produce Unsung Heroes.  They performed this as a  curtain-raiser to Some Like it Hip Hop, by the professional company, at Mayflower Theatre, Southampton.
