May Half-Term Film School 2018
|
During the May 2018 half-term Film Schoolers joined City Eye and John Hansard Gallery to explore themes in the gallery's Gerhard Richter exhibition, including personal archive and portraiture.
The young filmmakers were given a tour of the exhibition to help inform and inspire the themes and styles of their film. They then wrote their own individual scripts focusing around a personal memory, photo or an object. In teams they recorded each other's voice overs explaining what personal item they brought with them and how that reflects who they are as a person. They then chose their own lighting set-up, thinking about what colour best represented who they are and the stories they were telling. The Film Schoolers worked together to film and capture each other's own personal archive story. The film 'Who We Are' is a compilation of all their stories, you can watch this film and other recent Film School films here. |

Summer Film School 2016
During the Summer holidays young filmmakers came to SeaCity Museum to be part of the cast and crew of their own short film inspired by the PORT OUT, SOUTHAMPTON HOME exhibition currently showing at SeaCity Museum until 4 June 2017.
The Level 2 Film Schoolers had 2 days to make their film giving them the opportunity to explore the filmmaking process in more depth than the regular 1 day workshop allows. The PORT OUT, SOUTHAMPTON HOME exhibition provided inspiration for several ideas which the young filmmakers combined to write an 8-page script comprised of six scenes. During filming the group rotated directing, camera, sound and acting roles and used professional equipment to make their film. Finally, on the second day of the workshop, they entered post-production to bring everything together and also created the poster image on the right. The film 'What Happened in Cabin 169?' is a short thriller/comedy. Following the mysterious incident of a cruise passenger the ship's Captain, a concerned friend and a cabin maid who found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, try to figure out what happened and who is responsible. City Eye would like to thank SeaCity Museum for their kind support of Summer Film School.
