Are you passionate about film? Would you like to develop your skills and gain invaluable insights to work in the film industry? If that's you and you have the commitment and drive to complete the course then the Solent region's BFI Film Academy, running here at City Eye, is the place for you! Sign up to see how you can get-ahead in the film industry. You'll be working with professional filmmakers across a range of activities including workshops, masterclasses and screenings; and you'll get stuck into all aspects of production, working with other students to make your own short film. BFI is supporting organisations across the UK to run BFI Film Academy Short Courses. Over several weeks, successful applicants will attend a series of intensive workshops and masterclasses to hone pre-existing skills and adopt new ones. The aim of the course is to upskill each student so that they can operate competently on a film set. Opportunities include the chance to experience a Virtual Production Studio, akin to ‘the Volume’ used on Lucasfilm and Disney’s ‘The Mandalorian.’ They will also have a chance to watch and analyse a selection of independent films to inform their own production. Here are some of the highlights: • Masterclasses from industry experts • Virtual Production Studio visit • Pre-Production planning & previsualisation • Scriptwriting • Camera training (cine & DSLR) • On-set etiquette, language and hierarchy • Short film production from inception to exhibition • Production and post-production audio skills • Editing with Adobe Premiere Pro • LUTS & basic colour grading with Da Vinci Resolve • Film study and review • Festival & Film Exhibition By the end of the course, the group will have crafted a short film which will be screened at a red-carpet premiere for friends and family, and individually will have worked towards their Silver Arts Award.

2023- 2024 Course Dates
It's really important that you can attend all dates listed above. Who can apply? The BFI Film Academy Short Course 2023 is open to filmmakers aged 16-19, not currently studying at University. We welcome and encourage applications from people; with disabilities, who are LGBTQIA+, from lower socio-economic backgrounds, from ethnically diverse communities, and from other disadvantaged groups. We want to prioritise people under-represented in our workforce and in the industry. The cost to join is £25. If finding the course fee is difficult for you, a bursary might be available and can also help to cover travel and other expenses such as care or support costs. |
