Phoebe -
‘Going into the Screen Skills Bootcamp, I had recently graduated from the University of Sussex with a degree in Journalism and was looking to find work in the screen industries—specifically as a development researcher in factual/unscripted TV. I was particularly drawn to the Bootcamp as a way to broaden my knowledge of the screen industries, boost my employability, and gain a better understanding of what would be expected of me by a project manager. I also wanted to learn more about the language and inner workings of production from a managerial perspective. During the Bootcamp, I found it especially valuable to hear from industry experts who not only shared their personal experiences but also led role-play scenarios that encouraged problem-solving. It was helpful to think through a project from initial concept to completion, allowing us to identify potential risks and challenges. Since completing the Bootcamp, I’ve taken proactive steps to try and break into the industry—using the insights I gained to arrange meetings with several professionals. The experience gave me a clearer understanding of the importance of industry-specific language, the different organisational structures used in productions, and the software commonly employed.' |
