A Night Like This

We’re delighted to share that A Night Like This — the debut feature film from our colleague Liam Calvert and writer/producer Diego Scerrati — was released in cinemas nationwide from Thursday 26 September. It now available to purchase via HMV.

After premiering at BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and screening at festivals around the world, the film enjoyed a Regional Premiere at Harbour Lights Picture House, Southampton, on Monday 15 September at 6pm. Hosted by City Eye, the evening included a Q&A with the filmmakers.

This milestone not only marks a defining moment in Liam’s career but also showcases the strength of local talent. With six crew members having studied at Southampton Solent University, and City Eye’s own support through equipment, student runners from our BFI Film Academy Short Course, and our Head of Production Aaron West serving as B Cam Operator, the film is a true celebration of South Central film talent and a testament to City Eye’s training and development programme.

The film also features design by Haven Bear, a local artist known for Southampton Film Week's striking posters. Also a former City Eye trainee, Haven created the posters, promotional material and credits for A Night Like This.

About the Writer & Producer
Driven by a passion for storytelling and a commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices, Diego began his career as a film journalist and script editor in Italy before moving to London, where he founded Monteverde Pictures - a production company dedicated to the championing of diverse perspectives and collaborating with emerging talents.

The City Eye Connection
In 2024, City Eye supported the film by providing equipment and crew, creating opportunities for emerging filmmakers. Three of the charity's BFI Film Academy students and two members of its 1825 Filmmakers Group gained hands-on production experience, with Head of Production Aaron West also contributing as B-Cam Operator.

About the Film
Two seemingly mismatched men form an unexpected connection over the course of one cold London night.  The film stars Alexander Lincoln, Jack Brett Anderson and David Bradley.

About the Director

Originally from Leeds, Liam studied Film and Television in Southampton, beginning his career with a focus on editing. As his passion for storytelling deepened, he went on to complete an MA in Film Production, where he wrote and directed a series of award-winning shorts that established his voice as a filmmaker.

Liam's journey with City Eye began as a Solent University student, working in operations and production whilst completing his Masters.

Now based in London, he continues to mentor through BFI Film Academy workshops, and in 2024 judged SFW: Shorts at Southampton Film Week, the city's annual film festival delivered by City Eye.

We are very excited to see where his career takes him next.
