If so then maybe it's time to join City Eye's Documentary Filmmaking Techniques Course and learn with professional filmmakers how to conceive, plan, develop, shoot and edit your short 10 minute documentary film. In this introductory course you will team up with a partner and learn how to develop your ideas through group and tutor support. You will improve your filmmaking skills with cameras and sound and create great films with Adobe editing software. This course is suitable to anyone who has a little experience in filmmaking, either with production or editing, but wants to develop their documentary filmmaking idea further. Training covered during the course Introduction to different types of documentary films. Discussion on realistic targets for documentary film projects. Basic introduction to camera and sound techniques. Pitching ideas within the group, discussion and development. Development of camera and sound skills including lighting and interview techniques. Creating a short film premise - group discussions. Understanding codes of conduct and copyright laws. Filming cutaways. The issues with external location filming. Project development with tutor and peer discussion. Preparing to shoot and creating a shooting schedule. How to run a successful shoot. Introduction to editing, creating good workflows and capturing and ordering rushes. Developing structure in your edit and understanding the rhythm of your film. Steven Lewis is a lecturer at Bournemouth University where he is currently unit leader on the Media Technology course. He is also a final year project supervisor for the School of Design Engineering & computing. He has 20 years of film making experience starting his career in television commercials, and has also worked as a camera operator for American Broadcasting Corporation. He has worked on several documentary projects including work for Family Rights Group (City-Eye) & Tudor House Museum, Southampton (City-Eye). He has also worked with Artists to produce work shown in major galleries and Museums both Nationally & Internationally. |
