Documentary
Filmmaking Course
This exciting
new course will take you through the history of documentary filmmaking
giving you opportunities to look at the development of the genre from
the early British Documentary Movement of Grierson and Jennings through
Cinéma vérité and onto popular contempory documentary
filmmakers like Michael Moore and Nick Bloomfield. The course aims
to help students explore styles and issues surrounding documentary
filmmaking which will allow them to develop their own filmmaking style
before moving onto creating a short documentary of their own.
The course will
include history and theory sessions, techniques in using cameras,
sound equipment and lighting as well as helping students develop a
full understanding of documentary filmmaking construction. This will
be coupled with the development, planning and research needed to manage
a documentary film shoot.
Post production
will include editing on Adobe Premiere CS Pro software and will conclude
with a screening of work at the end of the course.
All equipment
for the course will be provided. It is advised but not essential that
prospective students have some prior knowledge of filmmaking whether
that is production and/or editing.
