JUNE 5th 2010 2pm - 10pm
Palmerston Park, Southampton

Turning the parks of Southampton into a hub of cultural activity Southampton’s Palmerston Park is to be transformed into a hub of creative activity this summer with a new music, art and film festival set to take place.

On Saturday 5 June 2010, local artists will showcase their skills in the park and organisers hope the event will put Southampton’s vibrant culture firmly on the map. The free festival, which is organised by local promoters EjectorSeat, begins at 2pm and will run through the day and evening, finishing at 10pm.

A special outdoor gallery is planned where the park’s trees and street furniture will be used to exhibit paintings, sculpture and photography. Live illustration groups will also be working all over the park.

Bands from in and around the city will perform on the park’s bandstand, collaborating with choirs and orchestras and a drumming group. Confirmed so far to play are Haunted Stereo, Waking Aida, Woven Bird, The Death of Cinema Club, The Hola and The Paper
Cinema.

Meanwhile, with the help of Hampshire community film making resource City Eye, a film tent will screen premières of local films and entries for their latest film competition.

An arts market is also planned for the festival and this will be filled with the best in local culture: from fanzines to handmade crafts. There will also be various free workshops ongoing throughout the day, open to everyone.

Mac Ince, co-founder of EjectorSeat, hopes that the event will be a celebration of local arts culture and that it will help to create an ongoing dialogue between artists in the area. He said: “There’s so much artistic activity in Southampton that is under the radar, we really want the public and other artists to take notice.”

Southampton’s active Art House Café will be selling vegan and vegetarian food & refreshments on the day for all to enjoy.

Eye Witness Productions scoops prestigious Docu Regio award
for latest feature project The Indian Hunter.

City Eye board member and Southampton-based documentary film-maker Steve Bowles at Eye Witness Productions has been awarded prestigious Docu Regio development support for his latest feature project The Indian Hunter which aims to tell the extraordinary story of veteran Brazilian Indigenist Sydney Possuelo and his life's work with the last un-contacted Indian peoples of the Amazon.

The Indian Hunter was initially short-listed by Screen South, against stiff competition, to go through to the final European round. The project was then selected by the Docu Regio committee from amongst nearly thirty finalists from nine different countries.

The Docu Regio programme aims to help develop projects from regional producers in the Docu Regio area and to promote networking amongst European producers.

Commenting on his award Steve Bowles commented 'In a world where budgets are getting tighter and tighter, the European co-production route, is often the only way to get ambitious documentary films up and running. I'm very grateful to Screen South and Docu Regio for the opportunity to move this exciting project forward'.

You can see a clip from the promo on The Indian Hunter at: www.eyewitnessproductions.co.uk/broadcast.asp

Everyone at City Eye would like to congratulate Steve on his success and wish him well as he moves his exciting project forward.

Drive In Movies Back in Southampton***Event Postponed***
It is with deep regret that big bear events have had to postpone the drive in movies that were due to be held in Southampton between may 6th to 8th. Ticket refunds can be claimed back by contacting the ticket agency for a full refund. Big Bear Events hope to be bringing the event back to Southampton in the autumn and all people who purchased tickets for this event will be
offered greatly discounted tickets for the next one.

Drive In Movies is returning to Southampton City Centre in association with Southampton Daily Echo and Wave 105 and will be held at West Quay Phase 3 site on Western Esplanade between Thursday May 6th and Saturday May 8th. You can drive along in your Cadillac and watch 3 of the best films ever made on a large outdoor screen whilst sat in the comfort of your car.

In the early days of Drive in Movies, a movie's sound was provided by outdoor speakers on the screen and later by an individual speaker hung from the window of each car, which would be attached by a wire. This system was superseded by the more economical and less damage-prone method of broadcasting the soundtrack on FM Radio that can be picked up by a car radio. This method also allows the soundtrack to be picked up in stereo by the audience on a high fidelity stereo that are installed in most cars these days.

The film on show are:
THIS IS IT - Thursday, May 6, 2010
DIRTY DANCING - Friday, May 7, 2010
THE ITALIAN JOB (1969) - Saturday, May 8, 2010

A new filmmaking competition at Salisbury Arts Centre

How do you fancy choosing your favourite film to be shown on the big cinema screen as part of the autumn movie programme at Salisbury Arts Centre? Whether it's a Spielberg blockbuster or a Hitchcock thriller or a 7 hour glimpse into the world of Hungarian Communism, the possibilities are endless.*

Salisbury Arts Centre is laying down the challenge to budding filmmakers to make a short film inspired by their choice of feature, and the winning short will be screened alongside the feature in the autumn season.

* Well, not entirely endless - some films may not be available, for instance very recent releases, so please check with us about your choice before you start shooting!

This challenge is part of an ongoing project at Salisbury Arts Centre called Magic Lantern, where we are bringing together local filmmakers with a huge range of backgrounds, interests and experiences. The aim is to provide opportunities to network, show your films, watch other locally made films, find cast, crew and inspiration, and enjoy a good chat over a couple of drinks.

Entry to Magic Lantern and to the challenge is absolutely free. You don't have to be an expert filmmaker to take part. Anyone who can get their hands on a camera and fancies giving it a go can join in.

Come along to the Magic Lantern gathering on Tuesday 20 April at 7.30pm at Salisbury Arts Centre for full entry info. If you can't make it, let us know in advance.

To submit your finished film, bring it on DVD to the Magic Lantern meeting on 11 May at 7.30pm at Salisbury Arts Centre, where all the films will be shown and the winning entry will be selected by our judge Patrick Bliss, film programmer for Salisbury International Arts Festival.

MAY 2000 to MAY 2010 – 10 YEARS OF ROCLIFFE FORUMS

CALL FOR SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY
BAFTA ROCLIFFE NEW WRITING FORUM

The BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum invites submissions for its forthcoming 10th anniversary events in Nottingham and London. Over the last 10 years our BAFTA-supported initiative has connected scores of aspiring British writers and filmmakers with BAFTA Award-winning talent including Mike Newell, John Madden and David Parfitt. The deadline for submissions for the 10th Anniversary forums is 17:00 on 8 March 2010.

This year, Rocliffe will celebrate a decade of events including New Film Forums and the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum. With the aim of bringing the best and brightest aspiring filmmakers and writers to the attention of the established film and television industry at large, the forums have put the spotlight on new British talent such as BAFTA and Academy Award-winning director Andrea Arnold, and provided a springboard to success for young British talent including James Dormer, who has gone on to write episodes of British TV dramas Spooks and The Fixer, Jack Thorne who won the Best British Newcomer award at the 2009 London Film Festival for The Scouting Book for Boys.

Together with our Media Sponsors Variety, we aim to make these events bigger and better than ever and we invite writers to submit their scripts for consideration for one or both events.

The next two BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forums will take place at the ScreenLit Festival in Nottingham on 27 April and at BAFTA headquarters in London on 5 May 2010.

The closing date for submissions is 8 March 2010 @ 17.00. Entries should be sent to Alex Cook, Regional Programmer, BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LN.

Due to the increasing popularity of this event, it has become necessary to charge a small script submission fee (£5.00) to enable the organisers to handle the volume of scripts submitted. BAFTA and Rocliffe are non profit organisations and funds raised will be used towards securing the future of this event.
