| MAY
2000 to MAY 2010 10 YEARS OF ROCLIFFE FORUMS
CALL
FOR SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY
BAFTA ROCLIFFE NEW WRITING FORUM
The BAFTA
Rocliffe New Writing Forum invites submissions for its forthcoming
10th anniversary events in Nottingham and London. Over the
last 10 years our BAFTA-supported initiative has connected
scores of aspiring British writers and filmmakers with BAFTA
Award-winning talent including Mike Newell, John Madden and
David Parfitt. The deadline for submissions for the 10th Anniversary
forums is 17:00 on 8 March 2010.
This year,
Rocliffe will celebrate a decade of events including New Film
Forums and the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum. With the
aim of bringing the best and brightest aspiring filmmakers
and writers to the attention of the established film and television
industry at large, the forums have put the spotlight on new
British talent such as BAFTA and Academy Award-winning director
Andrea Arnold, and provided a springboard to success for young
British talent including James Dormer, who has gone on to
write episodes of British TV dramas Spooks and The Fixer,
Jack Thorne who won the Best British Newcomer award at the
2009 London Film Festival for The Scouting Book for Boys.
Together
with our Media Sponsors Variety, we aim to make these events
bigger and better than ever and we invite writers to submit
their scripts for consideration for one or both events.
The next
two BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forums will take place at the
ScreenLit Festival in Nottingham on 27 April and at BAFTA
headquarters in London on 5 May 2010.
The closing
date for submissions is 8 March 2010 @ 17.00. Entries should
be sent to Alex Cook, Regional Programmer, BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly,
London W1J 9LN.
Due to
the increasing popularity of this event, it has become necessary
to charge a small script submission fee (£5.00) to enable
the organisers to handle the volume of scripts submitted.
BAFTA and Rocliffe are non profit organisations and funds
raised will be used towards securing the future of this event.

Film Feast: Film Maker/Workshop Facilitator
Using
an experienced filmmaker, we would like to host, over a 6
week period, film making workshops for young people in three
target areas of Portsmouth, to make 3 films exploring their
perceptions of the hidden gems of the city. We would work
with partners in the city to contact young people who have
not previously had any experience of filmmaking but who were
interested in the genre and exploring their city.
With
an eye on the future we would like to look at the possibility
of developing the city's' young peoples' capacity to engage
with the art of running a film/cinema night.
Facilitators
Role:
Your role would be to create a safe
and creative filmmaking workshop framework that would engage
young people in the process of making and completing a film
ready to screen. While it is imperative for you to have your
own vision and have the ability to articulate this well, you
must have the capability to listen to, and take on board the
ideas of the group to allow them to formulate a sense of pride
towards their work.
The
facilitator/film maker will be expected to be flexible and
available to work in spaces that are multi use. Access to
your own equipment is an imperative. The timeline for the
completion of the film-making aspect of this project will
be mid to end of May 2010.
Budget
available includes:
A total of £3,950 is available
to include all fees, expenses, materials, travel, equipment
hire and filming costs. Fees will be payable on the completion
of the phases of the project, to be set out in an agreement
with the Citys Arts and Cultural Development Service.
To
request this brief in full please email arts@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
or call 023 9283 4183.
Deadline for completed tender applications is Wednesday 11th
March 2010.
Candidates will be selected for interview by members of Portsmouth
City Councils Arts & Cultural Development Service.
Interviews will take place on 17th March.
Please
note that faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.

The South Coasts Premier 48h Hour Film Competition
Applications are now being
accepted for the fourth annual DV Mission 48hr Film Challenge. This
year we will be returning to the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth for
the premier night and after party. After the introduction of the Mission
Briefing in 2008 we are now running a full one day of workshops prior
to the event to support challenge participants absolutely free of
charge. With support from this years sponsors, Film Hampshire and
Screen South we have a new website and plan to make this the best
48 hour film challenge on the south coast.
In 2008 Derek Metters of the Workers Education Association (WEA) drew
a title "Blood on the Moon"; the genre "B-Movie";
and a line of dialogue "oh go on then I will play your vicious
little game" from the golden envelopes and launched last years
challenge. Pressing the activation button Derek set the teams racing
across the start line and off to a weekend of filmmaking with only
48hrs to make a two minute film for exhibition on the Sunday night
at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth.
Twenty three teams signed up to the event including professionals,
amateurs, students, independents and pretty much all of the local
filmmaking community in Portsmouth and surrounding area. There were
even teams from as far afield as Buckinghamshire, that's around 250
people all making films over the weekend. While the event is intended
to be fun "the spirit of DV Mission is the sex pistols meets
the Oscars, its rock and roll filmmaking" says the event organiser
Jinx Prowse. This is an unique opportunity that brings creatives from
all walks of life together for a weekend of fun "its playtime
for amateurs, students and professional filmmakers who get to spend
the weekend doing something they enjoy" added Jinx Prowse.
Teams competed for the coveted 'Pompy Oscars" and this year event
sponsors are offering a range of prizes for the Best Lo-tech and Best
Pro-tech films (Pro-tech = using cameras costing more than £500
where as Lo-tech = cheap and cheerful). This years films will also
be screened on the BBC Big Screen in Guildhall Square, Portsmouth
and will be available to watch on-line via the DV Mission website
along with the entries from the last three years: www.dvmission.co.uk.
The event is the biggest 48hr Film Challenge on the South Coast and
hotly debated on filmmaking forums across Europe. This is a big boost
for Portsmouth locally, regionally and internationally. To take part
just go to the website, read the rules, sign up and send us your application
form.
