A
new filmmaking competition at Salisbury Arts Centre
How do you fancy
choosing your favourite film to be shown on the big cinema screen as
part of the autumn movie programme at Salisbury Arts Centre? Whether
it's a Spielberg blockbuster or a Hitchcock thriller or a 7 hour glimpse
into the world of Hungarian Communism, the possibilities are endless.*
Salisbury Arts Centre
is laying down the challenge to budding filmmakers to make a short film
inspired by their choice of feature, and the winning short will be screened
alongside the feature in the autumn season.
* Well, not entirely
endless - some films may not be available, for instance very recent
releases, so please check with us about your choice before you start
shooting!
This challenge is
part of an ongoing project at Salisbury Arts Centre called Magic Lantern,
where we are bringing together local filmmakers with a huge range of
backgrounds, interests and experiences. The aim is to provide opportunities
to network, show your films, watch other locally made films, find cast,
crew and inspiration, and enjoy a good chat over a couple of drinks.
Entry to Magic Lantern
and to the challenge is absolutely free. You don't have to be an expert
filmmaker to take part. Anyone who can get their hands on a camera and
fancies giving it a go can join in.
Come along to the
Magic Lantern gathering on Tuesday 20 April at 7.30pm at Salisbury Arts
Centre for full entry info. If you can't make it, let us know in advance.
To submit your finished
film, bring it on DVD to the Magic Lantern meeting on 11 May at 7.30pm
at Salisbury Arts Centre, where all the films will be shown and the
winning entry will be selected by our judge Patrick Bliss, film programmer
for Salisbury International Arts Festival.
MAY
2000 to MAY 2010 10 YEARS OF ROCLIFFE FORUMS
CALL
FOR SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY
BAFTA ROCLIFFE NEW WRITING FORUM
The BAFTA Rocliffe
New Writing Forum invites submissions for its forthcoming 10th anniversary
events in Nottingham and London. Over the last 10 years our BAFTA-supported
initiative has connected scores of aspiring British writers and filmmakers
with BAFTA Award-winning talent including Mike Newell, John Madden and
David Parfitt. The deadline for submissions for the 10th Anniversary
forums is 17:00 on 8 March 2010.
This year, Rocliffe
will celebrate a decade of events including New Film Forums and the
BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum. With the aim of bringing the best
and brightest aspiring filmmakers and writers to the attention of the
established film and television industry at large, the forums have put
the spotlight on new British talent such as BAFTA and Academy Award-winning
director Andrea Arnold, and provided a springboard to success for young
British talent including James Dormer, who has gone on to write episodes
of British TV dramas Spooks and The Fixer, Jack Thorne who won the Best
British Newcomer award at the 2009 London Film Festival for The Scouting
Book for Boys.
Together with our
Media Sponsors Variety, we aim to make these events bigger and better
than ever and we invite writers to submit their scripts for consideration
for one or both events.
The next two BAFTA
Rocliffe New Writing Forums will take place at the ScreenLit Festival
in Nottingham on 27 April and at BAFTA headquarters in London on 5 May
2010.
The closing date
for submissions is 8 March 2010 @ 17.00. Entries should be sent to Alex
Cook, Regional Programmer, BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LN.
Due to the increasing
popularity of this event, it has become necessary to charge a small
script submission fee (£5.00) to enable the organisers to handle
the volume of scripts submitted. BAFTA and Rocliffe are non profit organisations
and funds raised will be used towards securing the future of this event.
