COFILMIC COMEDY FILM FESTIVAL - SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN! A brand new comedy short film festival and awards ceremony takes place at the Comedy Store Manchester on 31st October and 1st November 2011. Unlike run-of-the-mill shorts festivals, the competition is open to comedians, those who wish to write and produce comedy for TV and comedy film makers. So far, the impressive list of judges and associates of the Festival include BAFTA winning producer Charlie Hanson, Baby Cow’s Henry Normal, East is East producer Leslee Udwin, MOFILM managing director Andy Baker, The Comedy Store founder Don Ward, Commissioning Editor at DAVE (UKTV) Steve North and BBC Comedy Commissioner Kristian Smith. Championing new British talent, Collabor8te is an exciting new platform for short filmmaking; from script development through to production and distribution. 10 selected scripts will be developed by The Bureau and Rankin Film, with up to 8 scripts then produced by Rankin Film. These 8 short films will complete their run on the international film festival circuit before being exhibited on DazedTV. What we are looking for: • The initiative will produce up to 8 short films during 2012: from scripts of any genre, up to 15 pages, with budgets up to £10,000. • While Collabor8te is keen to develop narrative films, with strong stories and characters, we actively encourage a broad array of styles, mediums and genres. *We will not consider ideas for documentaries. What will happen if you are sselected for development: 10 successful candidates will be contacted via email on Monday 28th November 2011. Each candidate will be expected to attend one, day-long development workshop at Rankin Film, London, w/c 12th December. This will be followed by a series of remote one to one meetings in January/February 2012. After this development period up to 8 scripts will be selected for production. Production teams: We will aim to shoot and complete all 8 short films in 2012. Each film will have a carefully selected production team that will include a mixture of new and established talent, recommended by Rankin Film, The Bureau and DazedTV. The scriptwriter will work closely with the director, communally elected by the Collabor8te team and the scriptwriter. Writer-director’s will be considered where they can display an ability to direct the project. In these instances a directing show reel will be required. REAL WORLD DOCUMENTARY SCHEME 2011 - Application Deadline: 18th July, noon Together with Pathways of Women’s Empowerment, Screen South are looking for an innovative documentary filmmaker from the South East of England to make a 12-minute short documentary film, in either of the following formats: 3 x 4 mins, 2 x 6 mins, or 12 mins). There are two age categories; ‘18 and under’ and ‘Over 18’ with which you can submit your film and this can include; drama, documentary, comedy, animation or experimental film. The films should be no longer than 15 minutes maximum. This film shorts submission is open to all regardless of race and gender, although films must contain a strong contribution by people of black or minority ethnic descent and/or reflect their lives. The 2011 British Urban Film Festival - Call for Submissions Buff Enterprises starts the new year with its annual call for submissions for the 2011 British Urban Film Festival, bringing together independent filmmakers from across the nation, to submit their own films. Buff Enterprises launched in July 2005 with the aim of providing a healthy alternative to the showcasing of urban independent cinema in the UK. Since then there has been a concerted effort by the UK film industry to address this imbalance in the cinema landscape both on and off screen. As a result of its' key pledge to screen films free of charge, Buff has played its' part in developing and attracting audiences who have shown a keen interest in being part of this movement.
